Active magnetic bearings
Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) are usually meant as Active Magnetic Suspension applied to support rotor spindles. Without contacts AMB are the better tribologycal answer for very high spin speed rotors.

The absence of lubricants make them almost perfect for high purity vacuum application such as turbomolecular pumps.
